I grew up in northeast Ohio in a small place called Thompson, Geauga County. After receiving my undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Lagrange College in LaGrange, Georgia, I attended the West Virginia University School of Medicine where I graduated in 2007 with my Medical Degree.
My interest is in advanced minimally invasive techniques to help patients with acute and chronic pain. I have extensive experience with spinal cord stimulation as well as peripheral nerve stimulation and use these techniques to help identify new treatment options for patients with chronic joint pain when surgery is not an option. I also collaborate with different specialists in other fields to help create and optimize treatments.
I have a special interest in the treatment of neuropathic pain conditions of the spine, peripheral nerve damage, and complex regional pain syndrome and enjoy using both techniques to help treat acute and post-surgical pain as well. I am a pioneer in the use of virtual reality for the treatment of pain in my region.
I have been fortunate to be involved in education on a national and international level through speaking engagements at meetings such as American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, North American Neuromodulation Society, and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, I have been a physician consultant and a key opinion leader for several medical device companies as well. This has allowed me to instruct other physicians through webinars, meetings, as well as hands-on didactic training. These relationships have also allowed me to participate in large multicenter clinical trials which have helped advance technology and patient care.
A brief description of our Basic Procedures
Epidural steroid injections (ESIs) are a common treatment option for many forms of lower back pain and leg pain.
A medial branch nerve block is a type of injection used to determine if the facet joint is causing the patient's back pain. Facet joints are pairs of small joints between the vertebrae in the back of the spine.
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed at a doctor’s office or a hospital. Patients usually return home the same day.
Steroid injections (or corticosteroid injections) work to reduce swelling and inflammation in the joint. They are commonly used in the knee, hip, and shoulder to relieve pain and swelling, but can also be used to treat pain in other joints including the elbow, wrist, and ankle.
A radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the sacroiliac joint (SI joint) is a procedure that uses radio waves to heat and destroy nerves. These nerves carry pain signals from the injured sacroiliac joint to the brain.
Peripheral nerve blocks are a type of regional anesthesia. The anesthetic is injected near a specific nerve or bundle of nerves to block sensations of pain from a specific area of the body.
Botox injections are a minimally invasive treatment option for patients suffering from migraine headaches, spasticity, myofascial pain, back pain, neck pain, or neuropathy.

A spinal cord stimulator is an implanted device that sends low levels of electricity directly into the spinal cord to relieve pain.
Peripheral nerve stimulation, frequently referred to as PNS, is a commonly used approach to treat chronic pain.
Provides patients with a clinically proven, minimally invasive solution that is designed to deliver long-term leg and back pain relief.
The Intracept Procedure is a new, minimally invasive option to treat chronic vertebrogenic low back pain. The procedure has been proven to be safe and effective in clinical trials, and is much less invasive than typical surgical options to treat vertebrogenic pain.
The standard surgery used to address SI joint pain is sacroiliac joint fusion. The goal of this procedure is to completely eliminate movement at the sacroiliac joint by grafting together the ilium and sacrum.
Kyphoplasty is a vertebral augmentation surgery to treat fractures in the vertebra. These fractures may occur because of conditions such as osteoporosis or trauma. Vertebroplasty is a similar technique. Both procedures involve injecting acrylic bone cement into the fracture through a hole in the skin.
How Ronnie found relief from pain with Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)
“I had back surgery in 2013 that left me with permanent nerve damage in my lower back. I tried everything to help and was on six Vicodin a day. My pain was still at an 8 or 9, and I was left feeling hopeless. I got referred to Dr. Vucetic, and little did I know he was about to change my life.”
Hear Karen's story about her experience with the Vertiflex Procedure (SCS)
“I had back pain from lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) for 3 years. I went to a physical therapist, had 9 rounds of injections, and even reviewed options with a surgeon. I was referred to Dr. Vucetic at Lake Health, and he recommended the Vertiflex ™ Procedure.”
